The Missions Primary Objectives

1. Preparing a 3-D atlas of the Moon.
2. Chemical And Mineralogical mapping of lunar surface.
3. Studiying the stratigraphy of the moon's crust, and thus learn more about its evolution.
4. Hunt for Ice in the moon's perennially shadowed regions.
5. Identify regions rich in Helium-3, a potential nuclear fuel.

• Split Up : Deep Space NEtwork Station,Byalalu: Rs 100 Crore. Pslv C11: RS 100 crore. Chandrayaan-1 space craft: Rs 186 crore

No other country has such a bold with the moon as India. Be it in religion, astrology or the ancient fables, the moon has a shining role. And now, an Indian baby has been sent to interact with chandamamma. The baby was concieved at a meeting at the Indian Academy Of Sciences, Banglore, in 1999. After a gestation period of four years, it was born in2003. It was named Chandrayaan-1.
On October 22, 2008, the 316-tonne PSLV C11, an upgraded version of ISRO's work-horse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, blasted off from Sriharikotta in Andhrapradesh with the 1,380-kg Chandrayaan-1, making India the sixth nation to launch a moon mission.
